The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust exists so everyone in the UK can be free from hunger. It is an anti-poverty charity that supports a community of more than 1,300 food bank centres across the UK, and together they are working to ensure that no one needs a food bank to survive. Until that happens, it provides emergency food and practical support for people left without enough money to live on.

One in seven people in the UK face hunger because they simply don't have enough money to live on. Close to three million emergency food parcels were provided to people by its community of food banks last year - the highest number ever. More than one million parcels were for children.

People are coming to food banks because their income is too low. People with health conditions or relatives to care for aren't getting the help that's needed from the social security system, and many jobs are insecure or don't pay enough.

Together, with the support of the People's Postcode Lottery players, the Trussell Trust is working to change things by:

  • Making sure food banks keep their doors open for people who need them, right now.
  • Making it less likely someone will need a food bank in future, connecting people with transformative money advice and linking up with other local organisations and services so that people don’t fall between the cracks.
  • Driving changes in local communities, policy and attitudes to build a more compassionate, just society.
